ED Peer Recovery Coach

Join Luminis Health as an ED Peer Recovery Coach and help patients transition from high‑risk alcohol and drug use to recovery.

The Peer Recovery Coach provides non‑clinical services to aid patients in establishing recovery from high‑risk substance use problems. Working as part of the hospital team, the Coach supplies peer support and motivation to encourage behavior change, conducts direct interventions in the hospital and community, and links patients to treatment and support services. The Coach sees patients in the emergency department, other units, and engages them in the community post‑discharge to develop service plans that promote successful linkage to referred services.

• Conduct brief interventions for patients screening positive for risky alcohol and/or drug use.
• Identify patient history, treatment history, motivation, and needs for community support services.
• Assess readiness to change and employ motivational interviewing techniques to develop a plan reducing or eliminating harmful use.
• Collaborate with hospital team members and community resources to align support services with the patient plan.
• Assist patients and families in understanding community services and help secure appointments and transportation.
• Provide ongoing peer support during hospitalization and post‑discharge to facilitate attainment of goals.
• Offer family members recovery support materials and education on overdose risks and naloxone training.
• Model coping techniques and self‑help strategies.
• Participate in training, staff meetings, and documentation required by the program.
• Meet productivity requirements and demonstrate competency within the first 90 days.
• Maintain competency throughout periodic and annual evaluations.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Actively engaged in a personal recovery program with at least two years of demonstrated recovery and sustained abstinence from alcohol and/or drug use.
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle for community outreach activities.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build professional relationships with patients, health professionals, and partner agencies.
• Strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills with good problem‑solving ability.
• Ability to read, interpret documents, write routine reports, and use basic computer skills.
• Patience and tact when interacting with patients, families, and staff; capacity to integrate Continuous Quality Improvement principles.
• Adaptability to diverse social, economic, and cultural backgrounds and collaborative relationship building with interdisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to learn and interest in acquiring new skills.

Employees may be exposed to blood‑borne pathogens. Light work: up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible force constantly.
