As a Senior Estimator you report to the Chief Estimator and will prepare and submit estimates on behalf of Hall Constructors. This position contributes to the overall organization by bidding on various types of work and handing over successful bids to the project team. This role primarily interacts with the estimating team, Chief Estimator, VP of Estimating, and Project Coordinators with the goal of project pursuit and acquisition.

Coordination and communication with the operations staff is key to ensure feedback from ongoing projects and input for creating estimates. Contact with clients, subcontractors, and vendors will also be required and the utmost professionalism is expected during these interactions. You will be responsible for all aspects of estimating including reviewing bid documents, measuring quantities, developing first‑principle estimates, procuring and comparing quotes from vendors and subs, and preparing and submitting proposals.

As a Senior Estimator you will be expected to work on more complex and key projects which are key to Hall’s sustained success and ultimate growth. On larger estimates you may have one or several more junior staff reporting to you for support and you should support them with mentorship and guidance.

Your day‑to‑day will look like:

Support estimating team with competent and timely work.

Work within the framework of Hall’s estimating and project management guidelines and best practices.

Manage all takeoffs for the estimate, including assigned Intern or Project Coordinator.

Read and understand contract documents and specifications.

Collaborate with other estimators and project coordinators to deliver a competitive bid.

Communicate with clients and sub‑contractors about the estimate frequently throughout the process.

Maintain accurate bid folders by organizing all addendums, quotes, drawings, and documents.

Attend all Estimator’s meetings and on/off‑site bid meetings.

Continue to keep up‑to‑date on current standards and practices in the industry.

Seek our assistance and guidance when needed.

Mentor estimators and project coordinators.

You have the following qualifications, technical and interpersonal skills:

Qualifications

Years of experience: 5 years minimum

Education:

Post Secondary Education or applicable work experience

Designations:

Considered an asset:

Past local civil construction experience

AutoCAD experience

BC Class 5 drivers’ license

Technical Skills

Advanced understanding of Programs/Software – Heavy Bid and Heavy Job (HCSS)

Advanced understanding on how to complete accurate quantity takeoffs for the following types of work:

Large‑scale excavations

Detailed excavations

Deep utilities

Shallow utilities

Flatworks

Earthworks (cut‑to‑fill, road cross‑sections, ditch grading, retaining walls, etc.)

Miscellaneous works

Understand the estimating process and how to organize a bid following Hall’s standards.

Proficient in spoken and written English.

Proficient in Excel, Word, Project, MS Teams, etc.

Interpersonal Skills
