Board Member – Organizational Assessment & Readiness; Hands
The Community AI Impact Association (CAIA) is a nonprofit organization based in British Columbia that empowers nonprofits and small businesses to adopt ethical, inclusive, and sovereign artificial intelligence (AI) solutions. By focusing on practical implementation, CAIA enables organizations to improve services, streamline operations, and enhance resilience while safeguarding trust, privacy, and autonomy. Supporting sectors such as construction technology, sustainability, and digital sovereignty, the association provides pilot projects, validated use cases, and workforce training for responsible AI adoption.
Members gain access to valuable resources, networks, and partnerships to confidently integrate AI innovations and foster provincial growth. CAIA is dedicated to people‑first AI solutions with a focus on community‑level impact.
CAIA is building a skills‑based Board to support strong governance and responsible growth. We are seeking a Board Member – Organizational Assessment & Readiness (Hands‑On) who is comfortable taking on hands‑on organizational assessment. Many organizations are eager to explore AI use cases but lack the organizational readiness needed to adopt them responsibly and successfully. Without this readiness, even well‑intentioned AI use cases can fail to deliver value, create internal confusion, or introduce ethical, data, or operational risk.
This role combines practical execution with board‑level responsibility, which is common for early‑stage nonprofits. This is a voting Board Member role with fiduciary responsibilities under CAIA’s governance structure.
As CAIA grows, this role is expected to evolve. During the early stage, this Board Member will actively lead and support hands‑on organizational assessment, documentation, and implementation of improvements. Over time, as operational capacity is built, the role is expected to transition toward an oversight‑only governance and advisory function.
Qualifications Ideal background- Hands‑on experience conducting organizational, operational, or governance assessments in nonprofits, startups, public sector, or mission‑driven organizations

- Comfortable working in early‑stage organizations where structure and operating practices are still being built

- Practical mindset focused on clarity and usability (avoids over‑engineering)
- Comfortable creating or improving basic governance and operating documentation
- Clear communicator, able to summarize findings and recommendations for Board discussion
- Strong alignment with CAIA’s community‑first, ethical, and non‑commercial
- Sound judgment, discretion, and respect for confidentiality
- Willingness to be hands‑on in the early stage, with an understanding that the role will evolve toward oversight
- Conduct a hands‑on current‑state organizational assessment (governance, operations, roles, workflows)
- Identify gaps, risks, and priority improvement areas
- Support creation of basic policies, documentation, and operating practices
- Initial hands‑on phase: approximately 10 hours per week
- Ongoing Board participation: approximately 4 hours per month
