An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the dedicated ICU team. The intensive care unit at Royal Lancaster Infirmary is an 8 bedded ICU/HDU caring for level 2 & 3 patients from a variety of specialisms.
Main duties of the jobFull support will be given for you to achieve your developmental needs including a supernumerary period. You will receive a Critical Care Developmental pack to work through – a transferable document of competence, to display evidence & training undertaken.
ICU experience is preferable but not essential, experienced or newly qualified Band 5 nurses can apply. Full support for Preceptorship will be given. This is an exciting opportunity not to be missed.
The department is committed to appraisal, to support continuous education and professional development. You will be required to participate in providing 24 hour cover.
You are expected to care for level 2 and 3 patients.
Working for our organisationWe operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Person specification Education and qualifications- Registered Nurse (on the relevant part of the register for the post)
- Willingness to undertake further training relevant to the post – and to use and maintain these skills in the delivery of care
- Willingness to undertake, teaching, mentoring and/or assessing qualifications
- Post registration clinical course appropriate to area
- Alert course, ILS, PLS, ALS
- Working within a multidisciplinary team
- Evidence of recent professional development.
- Previous experience within designated area
- Experience of mentoring and assessing junior staff
- Evidence of implementing chnage
- Specific clinical skills appropriate to speciality or willingness to undertake
- IT skills – use of email, word processing, internet searching
- Ability to communicate effectively both written & verbal.
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance agenda
- Knowledge and skills obtained in a relevant band 5 post.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
