Overview
The Royal Lancaster Infirmary are looking for 2 Speciality Doctors in Paediatrics to join our team at the Middle-Grade Level. The post is based in the Paediatric Department at Royal Lancaster Infirmary and you will be part of a team delivering day to day care of patients on the Children's Ward and Neonatal Unit. You will be required to participate in the 1:8 resident on-call rota which includes night duties, day shifts and weekends.
Main duties of the job
- Day to day care of patients on the Children's Unit and Neonatal Unit as well as covering the Central Delivery Suite and post-natal Ward.
- Maintenance of patient s records and generation of timely Discharge Summaries
- Participation in Consultant-led ward rounds undertaken by the Paediatric Team
- Emergency care of patients in the paediatric assessment unit and the emergency department
You will be encouraged to actively participate in audit / research / training within the team.
You will be encouraged to contribute to the teaching programme of the junior doctors and will help to protect their teaching time during allocated teaching sessions.
About usWe operate from three main hospital s-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our community services for adults are provided in people s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.

Person Specification Education and QualificationsEssential
- Basic Medical Qualifaction e.g. MBBS
- Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice
- APLS certified/ in date (or equivalent)
- NLS certified / in date (or equivalent)
Desirable
- Post Graduate Qualification in Paediatrics
Essential
- Completed at least four years fulltime postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) of which at least two years will be in speciality training programme in Paediatrics or as a fixed term speciality trainee in Paediatrics OR have equivalent experience and competencies
- At least 6 months neonatal experience (at Level 2 neonatal unit of above)
Desirable
- Proven experience in Audit
- Some experience with acute/non acute Paed problems e..g child protectin,child development
Essential
- Practical experience in:
Acute and non-acute paediatric problems: including medical, surgical, child protection, resuscitation, neo-natal, child development and disability, behavioural paediatrics
Desirable
- IT and computing skills
