Overview

The Royal Lancaster Infirmary are looking for 2 Speciality Doctors in Paediatrics to join our team at the Middle-Grade Level. The post is based in the Paediatric Department at Royal Lancaster Infirmary and you will be part of a team delivering day to day care of patients on the Children's Ward and Neonatal Unit. You will be required to participate in the 1:8 resident on-call rota which includes night duties, day shifts and weekends.

Responsibilities
  • Work as a member of a team of middle grade doctors on a full shift system.
  • Day to day care of patients on the Children s Unit and Neonatal Unit, including coverage of the Central Delivery Suite and post-natal Ward.
  • Maintenance of patient records and generation of timely Discharge Summaries.
  • Participation in Consultant-led ward rounds undertaken by the Paediatric Team.
  • Emergency care of patients in the paediatric assessment unit and the emergency department.

You will be encouraged to actively participate in audit, research and training within the team and to contribute to the teaching programme for junior doctors, helping to protect their teaching time during allocated sessions.

About us

We operate from three main hospital sites:
Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverstone Community Health Centre. FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, an Urgent Treatment Centre, and non-life threatening care. All three main hospitals provide planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery, with local outreach services across Morecambe Bay. Our community services for adults are provided in homes, community centres, clinics, GP practices, community hospitals and main hospitals, aiming to help people stay independent and manage their conditions with high quality care, advice and support.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Basic Medical Qualification e.g. MBBS
  • Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice
  • APLS certified/in date (or equivalent)
  • NLS certified/in date (or equivalent)

Desirable

  • Post Graduate Qualification in Paediatrics

Experience

  • Essential:
    Completed at least four years  full-time postgraduate training (or equivalent) with at least two years in a Paediatrics specialty training programme, or as a fixed-term speciality trainee in Paediatrics, or equivalent experience and competencies
  • At least 6 months neonatal experience (Level 2 neonatal unit or above)

Desirable

  • Proven experience in Audit
  • Experience with acute/non-acute Paediatric problems (e.g., child protection, child development)

Skills

  • Essential:
    Practical experience in acute and non-acute paediatric problems including medical, surgical, child protection, resuscitation, neonatal, child development and disability, behavioural paediatrics
  • Desirable: IT and computing skills
