Position SummaryThe Bachelor’s level Social Worker is an active member of the behavioral health team and supports the programs within the department. The BSW will provide support services to patients with serious behavioral illnesses. Under supervision of the Behavioral Health Professional, the BSW will provide education and support in areas such as personal recovery and use of coping skills in individual and group treatment.
EssentialFunctions
- Assist patient in articulating personal goals for recovery and wellness through one‑to‑one and group sessions.
- Provide support in identifying and creating goals and developing recovery plans with the skills, strengths, support, and resources needed to achieve goals.
- Encourage and assist patient to collaborate with their Behavioral Health Professional and treatment team to plan steps for achieving their recovery and wellness goals.
- Utilize tools to assist patient in creating their own individual wellness and recovery plans.
- Work with the treatment team to teach problem‑solving techniques to individuals and groups, encouraging patients to share and discuss strategies for coping and managing daily challenges.
- Assist in building social skills that will enhance activities of daily living.
- Collaborate with the re‑entry team to help patient participate in the release planning process.
- Assist in developing empowerment skills and combating stigma through self‑advocacy.
- Attend training and meetings as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in social work (BSW), Psychology, Human Services, or relevant field is required.
- Knowledge of the recovery process and the ability to facilitate recovery using established standardized Behavioral Health processes.
- Knowledge and skill to teach and engage in basic problem‑solving strategies to support patient in self‑directed recovery.
- Knowledge of the signs and symptoms of behavioral illness (e.g., auditory and visual hallucinations, aggressive talk and behavior, thoughts of self‑harm or harm towards others, isolation) and the ability to assist patient to address symptoms using strategies such as positive self‑talk.
- Knowledge of how to establish and sustain self‑help (mutual support) and educational groups by soliciting input from the Behavioral Health patient on their strengths and interests.
- Part‑time – 8 hours per week on Saturdays.
