job objective

a registered nurse responsible for the nursing care of patients in the progressive care setting, guided by policies and procedures of the progressive care unit and hospital.

duties and responsibilities
  • nursing process
    • apply nursing process in direct patient care.
    • provide accurate assessment and documentation of physiological, psychosocial, cultural, developmental, socioeconomic, and spiritual needs of patients.
    • provide logical sequence of action, update nursing care plan, and evaluate each shift of patient’s progress.
    • provide information to patient/family about educational resources and direct patient/family educational process.
    • provide discharge planning beginning on admission with appropriate referrals.
    • adhere to admission and transfer criteria and all current policies and procedures in providing patient care.
    • evaluate and document outcomes of medical, nursing, and ancillary team interventions.
    • incorporate time‑management skills in accomplishing care.
  • nursing care delivery process
    • demonstrate knowledge and use of resources, forms, and medical center administrative structure.
    • interpret rules and regulations.
    • know legal aspects of nursing care, legal documents, and patient rights.
    • act as liaison between medical staff and patient care team.
  • technical equipment
    • operate technical equipment safely, efficiently, and accurately.
  • environment
    • assist in maintaining a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment.
    • assess and report safety/cleanliness of patient/unit environment.
    • utilize resources, equipment, and supplies efficiently with cost awareness.
    • report hazardous conditions to appropriate department.
    • use clean and aseptic techniques and prevent contamination per exposure control plan and standard precautions.
    • demonstrate knowledge of emergency codes.
  • leadership/professionalism
    • supervise care provided by others and assume responsibility for quality of care.
    • give accurate and concise patient care reports to appropriate persons.
    • demonstrate knowledge of scheduling guidelines.
    • maintain professional attitude and effective working relationships.
    • function effectively under pressure and provide care as part of a team during crisis or emergency.
    • adhere to privacy laws, confidentiality, and the code of conduct.
    • adhere to antelope valley medical center compliance & integrity program policies.
    • complete all mandatory initial and annual training within established time frames.
    • demonstrate ethical decision‑making, integrity, and promote a culture of safety.

    • communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, and physicians.
    • problem‑solve and intervene in crises involving physicians, patients, families, and staff.
    • follow the chain of command and conflict‑management process established by avmc.
