Job Objective
An Emergency Department Registered Nurse must be knowledgeable in multiple disciplines, pediatrics, obstetrics, medicine, cardiology, trauma, orthopedics, oncology, infectious disease, and psychiatry. He/she must be knowledgeable in caring for all age groups; newborns, infants, toddlers, childhood, adolescence, adult and geriatric.
Essential Duties for all RN’s in the Emergency Department- Meets all the essential duties of a Registered Nurse.
Applies nursing process in direct patient care.

Arterial Lines, CVP, Swanz Ganz, ICP.
- Participation on unit or hospital-based committees
- Skills and Abilities

- Ability to perform and interpret ECG correctly
- Ability institute Thrombolytic therapy protocol
- Ability to assist in ICP insertion and monitoring/interpretation of wave form
- Ability to assist in insertion and monitoring of arterial line and central lines.
- Current California Registered Nursing license
- BLS
- ACLS
- PALS (within 6 months of hire or first available Antelope Valley Hospital course)
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certification, initial certification required at first available hospital training class. Annual recertification required
- Annual Restraint Certification/Recertification
- Annual JCAHO Review/Competencies

A Registered Nurse is responsible for the nursing care of patients as established by the Nursing Practice Act of the Board of Registered Nursing of the State of California and as guided by policies and procedures of the hospital.
Duties and Responsibilities1. Nursing Process
- Applies nursing process in direct patient care:
- Provides accurate assessment and documentation of physiological, psycho social, cultural, developmental, socioeconomic, and spiritual needs of patient as evidenced by assessment within time frame appropriate for level of care
- Provides logical sequence of action, updates nursing care plan as evidenced by notations on care plan, provides evaluation each shift of patient’s progress In relation to the patient care plan, if applicable to area of care
- Provides Information to patient/family relating to educational resources available, Directs patient/family educational process
- Provides discharge planning beginning on admission with appropriate referrals and update as required by the patient
- Adheres to the admission and transfer criteria
