Director of Development & External Affairs

MISSION

Kheir’s mission is to increase and provide access to culturally and linguistically-sensitive quality primary healthcare and human services support to the underserved and uninsured residents of Southern California.

An ideal Director of Development & External Affairs ("Director") is a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and resourceful professional who will lead all fundraising efforts for the organization and ensure that Kheir is maximizing and leveraging individual, foundation and corporate contributions, while effectively strengthening our brand. Reporting directly to and working closely with the CEO, the Director will develop and execute a fundraising strategy designed to support the organization’s future goals and mission.

This senior level position is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, strategic development professional who wants to shape and influence the organization’s directions through targeted external affairs, marketing, and public relations, related to fundraising. The individual is hands-on, motivated, and experienced self-starter with a sense of urgency and social responsibility. Being able to live and lead by the organization’s mission and values is a mandatory qualification for any member of Kheir, particularly for key staff positions such as this one.

You will leverage your creative talent and cumulative leadership experience and expertise in generating revenue from philanthropic, corporate and government sources. As you implement best practices and find new and innovative avenues in which to strengthen our revenue stream, you will derive fulfillment from your hands-on efforts directly impacting our service and capacity expansions and impacting the community’s social determinants of health and wealth.

Working as a key senior member of our leadership team, it will be your ability to blaze new trails that will allow you to collaborate with smart, committed and mission-oriented individuals on a daily basis as you drive and support our growth! Your polished and engaging verbal, written and presentation skills are paramount to effectively collaborating with internal leadership and guiding a team responsible for assuring the fulfillment of philanthropic grants and government contracts.

• Develop a comprehensive, strategic fundraising plan with specific, measurable goals that will enable Kheir to meet its current budget forecast and future goals; oversee implementation of that plan (initial annual target of $2 Million Non-Federal funds awarded).
• Establish a development plan, priorities, deliverables and timeline. Initiate, oversee and execute individual, corporate, private foundation and major annual fundraising activities, including preparation of high-quality proposals, grant reports, major donor cultivation and annual fundraising events.
• Manage public relations initiatives and programs to increase Kheir’s visibility, promote collaboration and partnership, and engage new and existing supporters.
• Maintain latest knowledge of healthcare issues & serve as an in-house policy expert, educator & advisor.
• Initiate, cultivate and steward relationships with the organization’s portfolio of individual, foundation and corporate supporters.
• Strategically leverage the time and connections of the CEO and other senior leaders to support targeted fundraising efforts, including developing the capacity of the Board to execute against development goals.
• Attend special events & serve as a key spokesperson for the organization.
• Oversee all aspects of development from concept design to record-keeping.
• Serve as agency liaison for Kheir’s Board of Directors, and support meeting coordination and other Board engagement efforts.
