Maintenance Aide - Stadium Assistant

Summary

This is a seasonal, part time, at will maintenance position for in season work at Lancaster Municipal Stadium (Jet Hawks) from March to September for the 2019 baseball season, with the possibility for extended offseason hours.

Under direct supervision, performs a variety of tasks associated with parks and facilities maintenance duties at the City of Lancaster and performs other duties as assigned. This position promotes professional communication with other staff and the public, and is able to be responsible for safe work practices. General direction and evaluation is provided by the Parks Supervisor. Work is reviewed while in progress and by the results achieved.

Employees should be self-motivated and be able to execute tasks with a high degree of efficiency and attention to detail.

• Perform daily janitorial maintenance duties at parks and/or facilities.
• Perform daily turf and facilities maintenance duties at parks and/or facilities.
• Assist with maintaining and irrigating grounds
• Operation of hand and basic power tools for maintenance routines.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and City Staff.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

• High school graduation or equivalent
• Possession of a valid California driver’s license
• Open availability and ability to work up to 38 hours per week.
• Must be willing to work weekends, evening hours, special events, and holidays, as needed by stadium operations.
• Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written.
• Must be 18 years of age or older;

  Qualifications:
• A minimum of six months of janitorial/maintenance experience is highly desirable.
• It is preferred if applicants are proficient in and/or familiar with: basic irrigation repairs, landscaping maintenance, facilities maintenance (i.e. basic plumbing, electrical, etc.), basic turf management practices including aeration and fertilization, light administrative duties, performing site inspections, etc.

• Physical:
  Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment; to walk, stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (100 pounds with assistance and up to 50 pounds alone);
  
  to operate assigned equipment and vehicles; and to verbally communicate to exchange information; and to respond to emergencies and call-outs.

Work is performed both indoors and in outdoor field environment; may work alone; incumbents may be exposed to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, chemicals, mechanical and electrical hazards, in all types of weather and temperature conditions; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain; workers may be required to respond to emergency calls after hours, including evening and weekends and/or work unusual and prolonged work schedules or work multiple shifts during emergencies, seasonally-caused circumstances, or special projects.
