Critical Care Unit - Education Specialist
Pay range: $56.76/hr - $84.88/hr
Job Objective: The Education Specialist is a specialized nursing practice that facilitates the professional development of nursing staff and other team members. Responsibilities include program coordination, skills and knowledge assessment, implementation of evidence-based practice, and coordination of quality improvement initiatives.
Major functions include:
- Integrates advanced clinical concepts and knowledge relevant to leadership, teaching, consultation and research to effect improvements in staff orientation and retention, and patient care.
- Serves as a clinical consultant and liaison to hospital supervisors, patient care associates, families, community members and schools of nursing.
- Provides direct patient care as necessary for educational purposes and in emergency situations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collect data and define educational needs. Uses analytical models, current technologies, and metrics to assess needs and implement development plans.
- Implement strategies to achieve positive learning environments. Improves staff skills, job satisfaction, and retention through collaborative teaching, preceptorship, and mentoring.
- Integrate teaching, consultation, leadership and research. Provides consultation recommendations, develops and implements strategies, and revises programs based on evaluation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of mathematical concepts, nursing practice regulations, scope and standards, and patient rights.
- Skills in transferring concepts, analyzing journals, the nursing process, time management, equipment usage, and communication.
Education and Experience:
- Education: Graduate of a school of nursing and enrolled in a BSN (or higher) program. Bachelor of Science in nursing preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of recent clinical experience, with at least 2 years in the specialty area. Desired 5 years of experience as a preceptor/mentor.
Required Licensure and
Certifications:
- Current California Registered Nursing license.
- BCLS required.
- Unit specific specialty certification preferred.
