What you'll do:
The Portfolio Manager position is responsible for analyzing, structuring, underwriting and coordinating the closing of major and complex ABL loans in compliance with the Bank's lending policies and procedures. The Underwriter/Portfolio Manager will work with the Relationship Manager to manage loans to ensure the credit risks are responsibly monitored and identified. This position will assist in attaining established Bank, region and branch goals through active participation in underwriting and closing desirable credits with the Relationship Manager.
The Portfolio Manager is responsible for assuring compliance with all Bank policies and procedures, as well as, all applicable state and federal banking regulations.
Partner closely with the Relationship Manager to develop new and maintain existing client relationships while ensuring an efficient, endtoend credit process.
Prepare detailed, high quality written credit packages that clearly articulate collateral quality, monitoring results, underwriting rationale, structural recommendations, and risk mitigation strategies.
Collaborate with the Relationship Manager to engage directly with clients-in person, by phone, and via email-to assess credit needs, gather financial information, and determine appropriate loan structures.
Collect, interpret, and analyze all necessary financial and operational information to jointly present financing requests to senior management or the Loan Committee.
Coordinate all aspects of the loan approval and onboarding process; ensure loans are documented, closed, and funded in accordance with customer requirements, internal policy, and regulatory standards. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to processing and servicing of loans within the Relationship Manager's portfolio.
Reinforce a culture of superior customer service through proactive communication, reliable followthrough, and consistent internal and external partnership.
Execute detailed analysis of borrowing base certificates, collateral trends, availability calculations, dilution, and ineligibles to validate the accuracy of borrower reporting and collateral coverage.
Structure ABL facilities to mitigate collateral volatility through thoughtful advance rate design, concentration limits, reserves, and eligibility criteria.
Identify, monitor, and promptly establish material adverse trends in collateral, liquidity, operations, or borrower performance to senior credit leadership.
Coordinate with internal and external legal counsel on ABL specific loan documentation, including collateral carveouts, control agreements, intercreditor arrangements, and remedy frameworks.
Independently manage a variety of underwriting, portfolio management, monitoring, and ongoing upkeep responsibilities tied to both new loan requests and existing portfolio accounts.
Support workout, restructuring, or turnaround strategies for underperforming credits by evaluating collateral recovery values, liquidation scenarios, and field exam findings.
Mentor junior Portfolio Managers, Credit Analysts, and Collateral Specialists by sharing best practices, providing feedback, and supporting their development in credit analysis and portfolio management.
What you'll need:
- 6+ years of related experience in Portfolio Management or similar field.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of general banking operations, including deposit operations, loan administration, treasury management and/or other commercial banking products and services.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of commercial credit and loan structuring, and pricing dynamics. Credit analyst training completed.
- Advanced speaking and writing communication skills.
Compensation:
Salary range for new hires is generally $ - $ for Costa Mesa, CA. Salary amount is determined by specific job location. In addition, the role may be eligible for annual bonus/incentives earned and restricted stock.
