Job Overview
This position is a full‑time, 11‑month, tenure‑track counselor assignment in the Counseling and Matriculation Division. The counseling work week is not less than 35 hours. Participation in professional activities, curriculum development, and campus committees is expected. The teaching assignment may include courses offered onsite, online, hybrid, evening, or Saturday classes.
Representative Duties- Work at least 35 hours per semester in counseling.
- Participate in faculty/division meetings and yearly program reviews; engage in curricular planning, development, and implementation.
- Collect data, write action plans, and develop and assess student learning outcomes and program learning outcomes; support implementation and evaluation of educational programs.
- Contribute to college governance to advance the college’s mission and strategic goals.
- Participate in faculty professional development and continuing education to maintain currency in teaching methods, pedagogy for traditional and online learning, and student support strategies—particularly those related to student equity initiatives.
- Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, etc.
- Provide an environment conducive to effective learning.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Travel between district locations as expected.
- Perform other counseling‑related duties as assigned.
- Provide academic advisement for students, create educational plans, and assist students who wish to transfer, are on academic probation, or need to declare a major.
- Assignment may include work during the day, evening, or online.
- Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or family and child counseling—or equivalent. (Academic Affairs Division, California Community Colleges 2012).
- Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in one of the listed fields plus a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is acceptable. (CCR 53410.1)
- Approved by Academic Senate: 24 semester hours of graduate credit in Counseling or Psychology.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students (tit. 5 53024.1).
- Current resume
- Letter of intent addressing minimum and desirable qualifications (cover letter)
- Scanned copy of official transcripts with required degree(s); foreign transcripts need official certification of equivalency by a U.S. review service (e.g., NACES).
- Two current letters of professional reference signed and dated within the last year
Travel expenses for pre‑employment interviews and employment processing will not be authorized.
