Position: Paramedic Instructor- Full-time Faculty

This position is a full‑time tenure‑track, 10‑month classroom teaching assignment in the Health & Safety Sciences Division. The Paramedic Instructor reports directly to the Director of Emergency Medical Services Programs and provides quality learning experiences, facilitates the learning process, advises students and participates in professional development, curriculum development, and campus committees. The current teaching load is 15 lecture‑hour equivalents per semester.

Faculty are also responsible for at least five office hours per week and are expected to devote as much time as necessary to the professional responsibilities of the position, including participation in professional activities and committee service. The teaching assignment may include courses offered in onsite, online, hybrid, evening, or Saturday formats.

Representative Duties

DUTIES: Teach fifteen lecture‑hour equivalents per semester in Paramedic courses using various teaching methods, including demonstrations and active learning strategies. Maintain five office hours per week (regular posted office hours accessible to students). Prepare required time for instructional activities. Participate in faculty/division meetings, yearly program review, curricular planning, development, and implementation; analyze student learning outcomes data, write action plans, and implement program learning outcomes, assessments, and evaluations of educational programs.

Engage in professional development and continuing education activities designed to maintain and develop currency in pedagogy and student support strategies, especially relating to student equity initiatives. Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, and other required data. Provide an environment conducive to effective learning. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work.

Demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Travel between district locations is expected. Perform other instructional‑related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities Classroom Instruction

Teach all assigned courses for the full duration of scheduled instruction. Ensure that each class session contains essential curricular components, appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains currency. Evaluate student progress and provide timely feedback. Incorporate appropriate instructional technology to enhance learning. Provide and/or facilitate quality experiences in laboratory and/or clinical settings. Maintain cleanliness of instructional areas and laboratories. Ensure proper operation of classroom/lab equipment and report any malfunctions.

Recommend textbooks and other instructional materials, including equipment, to the Coordinator. Develop and distribute course syllabi according to the established template, providing appropriate information to students regarding course expectations and evaluation criteria.

Other Services to Students
  • Maintain appropriate accessibility for students.
  • Serve as educational advisor to assigned students by providing academic and employment planning.
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention efforts of the College.
  • Advocate and provide motivation for students.
  • Communicate student needs to the Director or Coordinator.

  • Prepare and submit instructional records, reports, grades, and all other required paperwork in a timely, efficient manner, meeting all deadlines and ensuring accuracy, correctness, and completeness of all data.
  • Remain current in discipline and instructional methods through professional development activities and other opportunities.
  • Participate in program and curriculum review, offering suggestions to improve curriculum in keeping with the mission and vision of the consortium.
