Aircraft Fabrication & Assembly Instructor; AFAB - Faculty

This position is a full-time tenure track, 10 month classroom teaching assignment in the Aerospace, Industrial Arts, and Applied Technologies Division. The current teaching load is 15 lecture hour equivalents per semester. Faculty are also responsible for 5 office hours per week and are expected to devote as much time as necessary to perform the professional responsibilities of the position. Participation in professional activities, curriculum development and campus committees is expected.

The teaching assignment may include courses offered in either onsite, online and/or hybrid format, evening and or Saturday classes.

• Teach fifteen lecture hour equivalents per semester in Aircraft Fabrication & Assembly (AFAB) using various teaching methods including demonstrations and active learning strategies.
• Maintain five office hours per week, including regular posted office hours, which area accessible to students.
• Responsible for preparation time.
• Participate in faculty/division meetings; yearly program review; curricular planning, development, and implementation; student learning outcomes: data collection and writing action plans, program learning outcomes, development, assessment, and implementation; evaluation of educational programs; and college governance to advance the college's mission and strategic goals.
• Participate in faculty professional development and continuing education activities that are designed to maintain and develop currency in the field, pedagogy (for traditional and online teaching and learning), and student support strategies, especially as they relate to student equity initiatives.
• Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, etc.
• Provide an environment conducive to effective learning.
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work.
• Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
• Travel between District locations is also expected.
• Performs other instructional-related duties as assigned.

• Any bachelor’s degree or higher AND two years of professional experience, OR any associate degree AND six years of professional experience, OR equivalency.
• College work, military training, or nationally recognized certifications equivalent to a Baccalaureate degree and two years of related occupational experience in the discipline.
• Or college work, military training, or nationally recognized certifications equivalent to an associate degree plus six years of occupational experience related to the discipline.
• Or eight years of experience in the aircraft fabrication occupation, two years of which must have included assignment as supervisor, instructor, trainer or owner of an aircraft maintenance facility with emphasis in aircraft assembly or prototype construction.
• AND a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students (tit. 5 53024.1).

• Three years full time, postsecondary teaching experience in Career Technical Education (preferably at a community college) OR 10 years of recent experience in training programs as related to the aviation/aerospace manufacturing/maintenance industries.
• Industry certifications related to the assignment (e.g., but not limited to Six Sigma, Lean Management, Composite Level II or Level III).
• Possession of FAA certification(s) A&P, IA.
• Evidence of successful grant writing or scholarship awards.
• Demonstrates strong applied aerospace industry knowledge and maintains current certifications, training, and professional relevance.
• Communicates complex technical concepts clearly and effectively using multiple instructional methods that support diverse learners.
• Exhibits professionalism, dependability, and collegiality while working collaboratively with faculty, staff, industry partners, and students.
• Engages in continuous improvement through participation in governance, curriculum development, program review, and faculty development activities.
• Shows initiative, adaptability, and problem-solving skills in support of program needs, instructional delivery modes (onsite, hybrid, or online), and evolving workforce expectations.
