Overview

To provide dedicated, continuous supervision and support to a patient identified as requiring 1-to-1 security due to risks such as aggression, absconding, self-harm, or vulnerability. The role ensures the safety of the patient, staff, and others within the hospital environment.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain constant observation of the assigned patient to ensure safety and prevent incidents such as absconding, self-harm, or aggression.
  • Identify and respond to potential risks or triggers.
  • Intervene early to de-escalate situations using approved techniques.
  • Safely accompany the patient during movements within the hospital (e.g., to appointments, wards, or outdoor areas), ensuring secure and controlled transitions.
  • Respond promptly to any incidents involving the patient.
  • Support clinical staff during emergency situations or behavioural escalations.
  • Maintain clear and professional communication with nursing and medical staff.
  • Report any changes in patient behaviour, mood, or condition.
  • Accurately record observations, incidents, and interventions in line with hospital procedures.
  • Complete handover notes for continuity of care.
  • Adhere to safeguarding protocols and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintain a calm, respectful, and non-judgmental approach.
  • Uphold hospital values and standards of behaviour.
  • Follow all relevant policies, including infection control, health and safety, and restraint protocols.

  • Awareness of NHS / hospital security policy (Desirable)
  • Good knowledge of hospital environment (Desirable)
  • Health & Safety Awareness (Desirable)
  • Experience of NHS Security (Desirable)
  • Proven ability in a Security services role (Desirable)
  • Experience of Security systems and equipment (e.g., CCTV/Intruder/Fire Alarms); able to act on own initiative and make autonomous quick decisions (Desirable)
  • Flexible approach (Desirable)

  • Accredited Security Qualification (NVQ/LV2) or willing to work towards
  • Security/Police/Armed Forces related qualification;
    You must have appropriate UK professional registration (Desirable)
Training & Development
  • Attend mandatory training sessions (e.g., PMVA, MAPA, safeguarding).
  • Stay updated on best practices in patient safety and behavioral management.
