About UsLancashire County Council provides comprehensive in‑house catering services to 16 residential care homes and 11 day centres for older people’s care services across Lancashire, serving over 800 meals daily. The Woodside two‑storey home in Padiham offers a safe, comfortable, and homely environment for up to 45 residents.
AboutThe Role
In this fast‑paced and rewarding role you will be responsible for a variety of skilled cooking activities, including menu preparation, portion control, and the provision of special dietary meals for our elderly residents. You will ensure the highest standards of hygiene and Health & Safety, oversee the operational control of service points, maintain accurate records, order supplies and manage stock.
You will also supervise kitchen staff, ensuring all team members work safely and effectively. Your expertise in menu planning, stock control and catering for large numbers will be essential. Knowledge of food costing, specialised diets, basic nutrition and proper use of kitchen equipment is an advantage.
Your Skills and Experience (desirable)- Proven experience in menu planning and stock control
- Demonstrated ability to cater for large numbers
- Experience supervising staff in a kitchen environment
- Knowledge of food costing and stock control
- Understanding of specialised diets and basic nutritional needs
- Awareness of basic hygiene and Health & Safety requirements
- Proficiency in the correct use of kitchen equipment and utensils
