Overview
Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Medical Secretary in Cardiology. The role is full time at 37.5 hours, worked over 5 days. Closing date: 06 February 2026.
Responsibilities- Provide a comprehensive secretarial service to the Cardiology Consultant Team including the Head of Department or visiting consultants (subject to change due to service needs).
- Coordinate diaries, process administration, complete validations, and type clinics.
- Manage waiting lists and bookings using Care Cube; organise workload with the Consultant Cardiologists and their team to ensure an efficient service and best use of theatre utilisation.
- Act as a point of contact for all forms of communication for the Consultant Cardiologists and their team.
- Carry out secretarial duties that contribute to the organisation of the work; exercise initiative; maintain confidentiality at all times. Be prepared for changes in working practices over time in line with service reviews.

An opportunity to join a busy Cardiology Department. The role is full time at 37.5 hours, over 5 days. The successful applicant will join a secretarial team embedded within a proud and hardworking Unit and be responsible for a Cardiology Consultant Team. Duties include coordinating diaries, processing admin, completing validations, typing of clinics and management of a waiting list, with a proactive approach to patient care.
PersonSpecification Education and Qualifications
- NVQ level 3 business admin (or equivalent)
- AMSPAR Diploma or equivalent experience
- Previous secretarial experience
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes
- Experience using G2 Speech Software
- Knowledge of hospital information systems (HISS/ORMIS/MAXIMS/NEXUS)
- Previous experience of working within the NHS
- Understanding of specialist medical terminology and procedures
- Advanced keyboard skills
- Excellent organisational and communications skills
