An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Theatre Support Worker within the Theatre department at the Royal Blackburn Hospital. The department consists of 11 operating theatres covering a wide range of surgical specialities.

Location

Work base will be the Royal Blackburn Hospital with required travel to the Burnley General site as service needs dictate.

Responsibilities
  • Check, clean and prepare all transfer trolleys.
  • Establish a safe working environment for patient and staff, ensuring patient privacy and dignity are not compromised.
  • Transfer patients to and from all clinical areas, reporting any problems or issues regarding the patient to the relevant staff.
  • Receive patients in the reception area and verify patient details prior to procedures.
  • Prepare the clinical area prior to a procedure.
  • Safely move, handle and position patients.
  • Act as circulating person according to own competencies, supporting the team during surgical procedures.
  • Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained (e.g., linen and clinical equipment) and report discrepancies to staff in charge.
  • Maintain appropriate department documentation – e.g., Theatre Man, care plans and electronic records in line with Trust Policy.
  • Refer any untoward incidents to the senior person on duty via the IR1 reporting system.
  • Ensure all patient property is returned/transferred to the appropriate ward area.
  • Report any concerns regarding patient safety, complaints or safeguarding issues immediately to a senior member of staff.
Qualifications & Requirements

• Proved operating theatre experience and willingness to work on your own initiative and independently.

• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

• Flexibility, enthusiasm and commitment to deliver high quality patient care.

• Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality and adhere to Trust policy and mandatory training compliance.
