About this jobWe are looking for an experienced engineer to join the Medical Engineering Department, based at Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals, to carry out maintenance / repair on a wide range of medical devices across the Trust.
The applicant will be expected to have previous experience in the field of electrical/ electronic maintenance.
Applicants should possess a HNC in Engineering or equivalent and should be able to demonstrate relevant technical knowledge and experience.
To act as a member of a multi‑disciplinary team of Medical Engineers.
Duties include the commissioning, maintenance and repair of medical equipment: including patient monitors, patient therapy and diagnostic equipment.
The Medical Engineering Department provides maintenance and repair to medical devices owned by the Trust.
The role will be incorporated into the Medical Engineering team.
Key DutiesTo display a high standard of self‑discipline and attitude to work, in view of the nature of equipment and its location.
To liaise with other healthcare professionals, clients and external organisations in order to resolve any issues.
To work unsupervised for long periods, although advice will always be available.
To be able to plan own workload; carry out acceptance and safety testing of new equipment, repairs and planned preventative maintenance.
To calibrate medical equipment by using expensive test equipment.
To be competent in the use of precision and fine tools.
There is a regular requirement to maintain and repair equipment that is subject to contamination of hazardous substances and body fluids.
To be aware of cost implication when carrying out repairs and planned preventative maintenance.
To attend all wards and departments on a regular basis to perform maintenance and where necessary to perform unplanned repairs.
On occasion there will be a requirement to move heavy medical equipment such as theatre tables, microscopes etc. whilst carrying out repairs or PPM.
To undertake duties of other staff as necessary.
To observe guidelines and regulation regarding the safe and satisfactory use of expensive test equipment and tools.
To work in areas, as necessary, where the Trust currently provides medical equipment support service.
Clinical & Professional ResponsibilitiesTo ensure technical safety of equipment under your control or jurisdiction and that it is within prescribed specification as laid down in the relevant statutory documents.
When required, to assist in evaluating and dealing with safety bulletins and clinical adverse incidents involving medical equipment.
Administrative ResponsibilitiesTo regularly input appropriate data and produce computerised information (both electronically and paper generated) in order to provide other internal and external bodies with information relating to medical equipment management.
To be responsible for receiving equipment and spare parts into Medical Engineering and ensuring its correct logging, storage and distribution.
To complete all documentation, including safety tests, fault history and commissioning records.
To input such information of the Medical Engineering management system.
To liaise with equipment manufacturers and external organisations regarding equipment to be returned to service or repair and organise documentation.
To organise and prioritise daily work schedules to professional standards in compliance with guidelines and relevant bodies, the relevant equipment.
Teaching & Training Responsibilities- To display a good level of expertise across a broad range of medical devices within the Trust, and to utilise knowledge within the field of medical device technology.
This knowledge will be gained through formal attendance of manufacturer approved courses, self‑study, continuing professional development at practical experience of maintaining repairing medical equipment.
- To attend training courses and to update individual technical knowledge of medical equipment and knowledge in respect of clinical use of such equipment.
To disseminate this information to the relevant healthcare specialists as required.
Financial ResponsibilityTo assist the Medical Engineering Manager or his Deputy and senior engineers in ensuring the provision of a cost‑effective, timely and quality maintenance service in respect of medical equipment and contribute to budget control.
To act as mandated signatory for the requisition of goods, breakdown repairs, and to certify the correct receipt and process of such.
To monitor and control spare parts and stock in a prudent and fiscal manner.
