Data Management Engineer - 12 month contract - Preston, Lancashire
Pay: £30.49 pa UMB or £22.75 pa PAYE (Inside IR35). The Umbrella rate quoted above is the gross Umbrella rate, inclusive of all employment costs. The actual rate paid will be lower for limited deemed or agency PAYE rates. Discuss rates via the appropriate payment vehicle.
The RoleThe data management engineer is a dedicated role that supports the delivery of data quality management governance activities and actions. This practitioner will be responsible for executing business data change processes and implementing data changes in the systems of record that are owned by their assigned function and/or line of business.
Fixes to source‑system data may be delivered manually or via automated methods such as scripts and workflow automation. Suitable delegated authorities may need to be sought to execute system changes.
The engineer contributes to improved business performance through hands‑on delivery of data quality improvements, either as part of a ‘data cleanse’ service team or as an embedded single‑role within a function or line of business.
They work closely with representatives of their assigned function and develop a comprehensive understanding of the data owned by that organisation.
Role Responsibilities- Work with stakeholders in their assigned function to identify, elaborate, and triage data cleanse requirements.
- Identify data standards, change processes, and authorities for data changes and define 'change patterns' for each type of data.
- Agree data changes in accordance with the change pattern, raising and securing business change authorities where necessary.
- Implement agreed data changes, gaining system access and making requisite changes manually or through automated methods.
- Agree on change closure with the requirement owner, including confirmation of business benefits.
- Familiarity with the principles of data management as defined in the Data Management Body of Knowledge (DMBOK).
- Working knowledge of configuration management principles, especially for data.
- Knowledge of data change and migration methods (manual and automated) using toolsets such as Python and Alteryx.
- Working knowledge of data analysis principles using tools like Tableau and Excel.
- Motivation for data improvement and the ability to work independently, methodically, and analytically to effect changes.
- Skilled stakeholder management and communication to progress data changes to conclusion.
This role requires full Security Clearance (SC) prior to working onsite, with a BPSS check. You must currently hold or be eligible to obtain SC. The role also involves direct or indirect access to ITAR material, which imposes additional restrictions. If you are unsure of your eligibility, please contact the recruiter for discussion.
