SEMH Teaching Assistant - Secondary School

Location: Bolton

Position: Full-time, long-term

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm

School may consider a 3:00pm finish with an early finish on Fridays

We are working with a specialist SEMH secondary school in Bolton who are seeking an experienced and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis.

The school supports pupils with EHCPs
, with SEMH as the primary need
, alongside additional needs such as ASC
. The setting benefits from a strong staffing structure, with a ratio of 8 students to 3 adults
, allowing for high-quality, individualised support.

The Role
  • Providing in-class support and out-of-class interventions
  • Supporting pupils during unstructured times and transitions
  • Identifying early signs of dysregulation and stepping in to prevent crisis
  • Supporting students who present with challenging and occasionally physical behaviours
  • Building strong, consistent relationships to promote emotional regulation and engagement
Requirements
  • Relevant experience working with young people with SEMH needs (essential)
  • Experience in an SEMH school, PRU, AP, or SEMH residential setting (preferred)
  • A strong, resilient personality with a calm and proactive approach
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Ability to remain professional under pressure and work as part of a team
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (essential)
  • Ability to commit to full-time hours - the school will not consider candidates unable to do this
