$6,576 – $8,842 plus a 10% assignment pay bonus.
OpportunityThe Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) seeks a CPS/FAR Social Service Supervisor to lead a team of Social Service Specialists. The role involves providing advanced guidance, coaching, mentoring, clinical reviews, and quality assurance to frontline workers who investigate and intervene in child abuse and neglect cases.
Responsibilities- Supervise and mentor a unit of Social Service Specialists and complete casework.
- Ensure thorough, timely assessments and investigations.
- Coordinate coverage with other supervisors to maintain full office coverage.
- Participate in supervisory, administrative, and individual meetings and conferences.
- Perform quality assurance on staff documentation, assessments, reports, case management, and payment initiation.
- Ensure documentation of case activities and information is recorded in FAMLINK.
- Provide mentoring, coaching, counseling, consultation, on‑the‑job training, and feedback.
- Prepare written staff performance evaluations using the Performance Evaluation system.
- Consult with administrators and human resources regarding corrective or disciplinary action.
- Train new and existing staff on accurate information gathering and case decision making.
- Keep staff informed of policies, rules, and regulations affecting their jobs.
- Consult and oversee application of the child safety framework.
- Review and revise service referrals, family assessments, and investigative assessments.
- Attend and testify in Superior Court.
- Eight (8) years of paid social service experience AND 30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Services discipline.
- OR a Master’s degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or a related field with 30 semester or 45 quarter credits and three (3) years of paid social service experience in public child welfare or health services.
- OR a Bachelor’s degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or a related field with 30 semester or 45 quarter credits and four (4) years of paid social service experience in public child welfare or health services.
- OR one (1) year of experience as a Social Service Specialist 4 (SSS4).
- OR two (2) years of experience as a Social Service Specialist 3 (SSS3).
- The ability to take action to learn and grow.
- The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.
NOTE:
A two‑year Master’s degree that includes a practicum may substitute for one (1) year of paid social service experience.
* Paid social service experience must include at least one (1) year of assessing risk and safety to children and providing direct family‐centered practice services.
Preferred Qualifications- Prior public child welfare experience.
- Completed Master’s Degree in Social Work.
- Case management experience with children and families in child welfare programs.
- Current knowledge of applicable laws, rules, and policies for child protective services in Washington State.
- Experience implementing risk assessment using the preferred risk assessment model and child safety framework.
- Experience using Fam Link and maintaining documentation.

The incumbent must complete Supervisor Core Training within one year, and formal training courses required by law and policy within twelve months. A criminal background check will be conducted prior to hire. The position requires a minimum of two years of driving experience and a valid driver’s license. Travel is required within assigned areas and to client locations and training venues.
This position is included in the supervisory bargaining unit represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE).
