DSHS WSH Phlebotomist/Laboratory Technician 1

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to provide phlebotomy services and assist in the lab at Western State Hospital (WSH) located in Lakewood, WA. In this role, you'll process specimens for clinical testing, order/stock phlebotomy/processing supplies. You'll perform clerical duties such as filing, answering phones, assisting with lab orders and following up on lab order status.

Schedule

Monday-Friday 5:30am-2:00pm

  • Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs
  • Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary
Some Of What You Will Do
  • Perform phlebotomy services to WSH and CSTC patients as a primary duty and process specimen obtained for clinical testing
  • Sort lab test labels
  • Keep track of any pending lab orders; assist ward staff with transcription of lab orders
  • Receive reports from reference laboratories and log/file/distribute
  • Report/Fax to the appropriate wards/Registered Nurses/Physicians as indicated/directed
  • Check and log temperatures on all temperature-dependent equipment
  • Operate and perform maintenance of simple laboratory equipment
  • Order and restock supplies; follow-up on delayed shipments
  • Maintain safe and clean work environment by complying with procedure, rules and regulations
Who should apply?

  • Active Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist certification issued by WA State
  • Six months of experience drawing blood in a medical setting
