Schafer Environmental Consulting Inc. (Schafer) is a small, growing environmental consulting firm based in Lakewood, Colorado. We are a full-service environmental consulting company specializing in asbestos, lead-based paint, and mold consulting, with additional services including radon testing, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, and other industrial hygiene tasks.
We are currently seeking an Environmental Technician to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for an entry-level candidate looking to build a long-term career in environmental consulting, as well as for experienced technicians seeking a stable role with room for growth.
What You’ll DoAs an Environmental Technician, you will support a variety of field and reporting activities, including:
- Performing asbestos inspections and air sampling
- Conducting lead-based paint, mold, and radon sampling
- Assisting with Phase I Environmental Site Assessments
- Completing technical reports following fieldwork
- Traveling to different job sites most days (local and regional)
This role reports directly to the Operations Manager and Owner and does not include supervisory responsibilities.
What We’re Looking ForRequired:
- Willingness to learn and develop new technical skills
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel to job sites
Preferred (not required):
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or a related scientific field
- Relevant certifications, such as:
- Certified Air Monitoring Specialist
- Certified Lead-Based Paint Inspector
- Certified Mold Inspector
- Certified Radon Measurement Professional
Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply. We are willing to train motivated individuals.
Compensation and Benefits- Hourly pay: $20/hour (entry level) up to $30/hour (experienced candidates), depending on qualifications and experience

- Proficiency in Quick Books, managing accounts receivable (AR) and accounts payable (AP)
- Strong organizational and office management skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience in the environmental consulting industry is a plus
