Job Overview
Works in a seasonal capacity for the City’s Open Space Parks Division performing a variety of maintenance operation functions as a Lead.
VAR Parks Seasonal Maintenance Lead position will lead other variable employees and have additional job responsibilities within that discipline, including but not limited to overseeing or leading small projects and maintenance tasks.
Lead positions are required to direct, train, and monitor other variable employees. This position will report to full-time staff progress toward goals, equipment/supplies needed, and staffing/workload issues.

- Oversee small projects and maintenance tasks.
- Report to full-time staff on progress toward goals, equipment and supplies needed, and staffing/workload issues.
- Maintain and utilize City-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when conducting activities where the employee is exposed to risks above those encountered in a traditional office setting.
- If injured on-the-job due to failure to utilize PPE a safety violation can be taken.
- The City of Lakewood is currently recruiting variable employees for this position.
- A variable employee is an at-will employee who works in a seasonal or temporary capacity. Their work schedule is based on business need.
- This position would be a part-time non-benefit position.
- You will perform duties such as park cleanup, mowing, weeding, irrigation maintenance, pruning, planting, tree watering, park equipment repair, minor construction and other duties as assigned.
- Hours may vary based on city’s needs. Typical Hours Range – 40 hours/week. Some weekend shifts may be required.
- Hourly rate: $19.50/hour.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have a total of at least two years of cumulative experience and/or education in park maintenance or landscape maintenance or a closely related field.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Background and reference checks will be conducted for all regular and some variable/seasonal positions.
