Leads and oversees all aspects of financial operations, reporting, and internal controls. Ensures accurate, timely financial reporting and compliance with regulatory and accounting standards. Supports the organization's strategic and operational goals through consistent, accurate, and timely financial insight.
Supervisory ResponsibilityDirects work of team members and actively supports their professional development to ensure the success of the business.
Essential Duties- Leads day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable/collections, and month-end close processes.
- Prepares and delivers accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and reconciliations on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Oversees bi-weekly payroll processing and ensures compliance with payroll-related regulations.
- Monitors and manages cash flow to ensure the company has adequate funds for operations and strategic initiatives.
- Manages, mentors, and develops the finance and accounting team, fostering a high-performing and collaborative work environment.
- Analyzes financial results and trends to support executive decision-making and recommend operational improvements.
- Supports budget preparation and forecasting with variance reporting analysis.
- Maintains and improves internal controls to ensure data integrity, regulatory compliance, and efficient operations.
- Coordinates annual audits/AUP, tax audits, and tax filings with external auditors and partners.
- Coordinates 401(k) audits and census.
- Leads system and process improvements, including automation initiatives and ERP enhancements.
- Provides hands-on leadership through regular check-ins and team meetings to ensure consistent connection, engagement, and transparency.
- Promotes continuous improvement and a shared sense of purpose across the Finance and Accounting department.
- Provides regular financial updates, KPIs, and operational insights to the Chief Financial Officer.
- Stays informed of current policies and procedures.
- Continued professional development through ongoing training and education.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Strong leadership and team development skills with a collaborative, hands-on management style.
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP, accounting principles, and financial reporting requirements.
- Proven experience managing month-end and year-end close, audits, and payroll processes.
- Proficiency in financial systems (Sage Intacct preferred) and reporting tools (including advanced proficiency in Excel).
- Ability to analyze complex data and communicate insights clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required (MS in Accounting preferred).
- 15+ years of relevant financial experience including 5 years in a controller role with supervisory responsibilities.
- CPA designation strongly preferred.
- Experience in payroll processing and financial reporting within a multi-entity operating environment (including experience with consolidations and intercompany accounting).
- Background in service-based or technology industries preferred.
- Prolonged periods of sitting and standing at a desk and while working on a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
- Regular interaction with other team members, including spontaneous and planned video meetings.
- Ability to effectively perform responsibilities under occasionally stressful situations, including meeting daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and/or annual standards and workload expectations.
- Ability to work any shift and required overtime based on business needs.
