STARTING SALARY: $1,936.22 Bi-Weekly. (In accordance with the current spending restrictions, an internal promotion into this position will be filled at the minimum of the pay grade or up to 5% of the employee's current rate, whichever is higher.)
DESCRIPTIONThis is work providing social services to assist in rehabilitation of juvenile law offenders in custody or on probation. Incumbents make recommendations for actions involving formulation of rehabilitation plan and treatment of offender, including conditional release and education and employment stipulations. This occupation will be responsible for coordinating work and supervising employees, assigning work, reviewing progress and assessing performance. Incumbent of position supervises employees, spends the majority of time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing employees’ work.
DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Case Management/Reviews Screening & Intake Process: assign tasks to staff based on inquiries from youth, family, victims, law enforcement, the courts, or department staff; assign cases to staff when referrals are received by the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (FDJJ); conduct case reviews to ensure home and school visits are integrated into case activities; initiate contact with youth, family, victim and law enforcement as needed;
use Motivational Interviewing to engage youth, family and staff; review cases for timely collection of collateral information and addressing identified needs. - Case management decisions: review documentation of detention screening, intake screening, and risk/needs assessments to ensure proper administration and determine need for further services.
- Facilitate assessments and referrals: ensure services are referred for youth and family based on assessment results regardless of youth’s status; assist staff with accessing services.
- Develop case management strategies with staff to address youth needs; ensure service referrals and follow-up actions.
- Approve supervision and treatment recommendations to the State Attorney and other judicial partners to provide appropriate services in the least intrusive manner.
- Safety planning: confirm youth and family discuss safety plans to mitigate risk and victimization.
- Review instruments and reports used by the Department and/or the courts (e.g., DRAI, SRSI, risk/needs instruments, case plans, etc.).
- Provide technical assistance and conduct case reviews to determine intervention strategies.
- Act as the DJJ representative during court hearings, testifying as needed to support departmental recommendations; confer with staff to ensure recommendations reflect information gathered through screening, assessment, intake and supervision.
- Ensure court-related documents are current and staff can present relevant information; provide policy/procedure guidance to staff responsible for detention screening, reviews, and related hearings.
- Monitor court dockets and ensure necessary parties are informed; communicate court outcomes to youth, family and involved parties; submit requests to the Office of the General Counsel for assistance with resolving court orders.
