General Description
Skilled work at the journeyman level in maintaining, operating, and repairing water/wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations' electrical components, switch gear, and instrumentation. An employee performs journeyman-level technical work, including installing, calibrating, maintaining, operating, and repairing various instruments, control equipment, and electrical components used in large water/wastewater plants and pumping stations. Some independent judgment regarding equipment maintenance, control, and use is required.
Assignments are given verbally or on work orders, and fieldwork is periodically supervised or inspected upon completion. Work is evaluated through completed work orders, direct observation, operating reports, and system performance.

Essential Functions- Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs generators, motors, conduit, wiring, electrical components, switch gear, and control equipment in water/wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations.
- Installs, checks, operates, and inspects automatic switching units, switchboards, batteries, and related electrical apparatus for proper operation.
- Installs, checks, operates, and inspects video surveillance components and related electrical apparatus for proper operation.
- Installs, checks, operates, and inspects access components and related electrical apparatus for proper operation.
- Performs maintenance and repairs of various types of lighting, electromechanical, analog, digital, and electronic recorders.
- Works on solid‑state switch gear control equipment and microprocessor‑controlled components.
- Troubleshoots instrumentation systems, loops, and basic equipment associated with electrical motor control.
- Assists with installation, adjustment, calibration, maintenance, and repairs of hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, analog, and digital control equipment used in water/wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations.
- May be required to work overtime or alternate hours as necessary for efficient operation.
- Position designated as Mission Critical by Department Director.
- Maintains detailed work orders and reports using a computerized work management system.
- Performs related work as required.
- High school diploma or GED from an accredited school.
- Two (2) years of journeyman-level electrical work experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must maintain a valid telephone number.
- Required to pass and maintain qualifications for:
- Respiratory Protection Physical
- Pulmonary Function
- Qualitative and Quantitative Fit Test(s)
- May be required to participate in Stand‑by/Call‑out rotation after normal working hours and on weekends; may be called at any time.
- Extensive knowledge of functions and installation of electrical equipment in industrial facilities: generators, transformers, breakers, motors, pumps, and control systems.
- Extensive knowledge of electrical testing devices: voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, watt meters, and related equipment.
- Extensive knowledge of occupational hazards, safety practices, and electrical trade procedures.
- Knowledge of transducer calibration procedures, various types of volt/amp transmitters and primary element installations, and electrical theory principles.
- Knowledge of operation and practical application of electric/electronic test equipment: direct current power supplies, milliamperes and millivolt calibrators, multimeters, signal sources, function generators, oscilloscopes, frequency generators, counters, and standard tools.
- Knowledge of symbols and standard practices for process and electrical diagrams and using technical libraries to determine best maintenance and troubleshooting methods.
- Skill in using tools for constructing and maintaining electrical facilities.
- Skill in using personal computers and related software for monitoring, operating, and testing equipment in water/wastewater facilities.
