Job Description
Identifies, intervenes, and stabilizes patients during transport under the direction of the medical director and EMS protocols. Provides direct medical care to patients during transport consistent with established EMS medical protocols and guidelines. Establishes and manages advanced airways via intubation, Laryngeal mask airway (LMA), and/or cricothyrotomy as approved by EMS medical protocols. Manages ventilators, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), and Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD) during transport.
Administers approved medications and narcotics consistent with EMS medical protocols. Infuses blood products consistent with EMS medical protocols. Performs all required procedures consistent with EMS medical protocols. Monitors, records, and communicates patient conditions and treatments as appropriate. Educates patients and family members about patient illnesses and clinical interventions. Inspects and maintains equipment to ensure the safety of transport team members, patients, and the public.
Completes and submits patient care reports (ePCR) in charting software consistent with state requirements. Operates emergency vehicles safely in various weather and emergent conditions, communicating delays and updates to dispatch, and reporting any vehicle issues to the supervisor. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to determine the nature of patient conditions and assess whether patients have pre-existing medical conditions [Required]
- Ability to identify and treat life threatening conditions within the paramedic's field of practice [Required]
- Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English [Required]
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office [Required]
