Position: Transportation Driver

Location: Lakeland, Florida

Employment Type: Part-Time

Pay Rate: $17.00 - $19.50 per hour

Wedgewood Healthcare and Rehabilitation is seeking a compassionate and reliable Transportation Driver to safely transport our residents to appointments and activities. This role requires excellent communication, attention to safety, and a caring attitude toward seniors and residents with disabilities.

• Operate handicapped-accessible vans and 10/14 passenger shuttle buses.
• Perform daily safety checks on vehicles before operation.
• Ensure residents are safely secured with seatbelts, walkers, and wheelchair tie-downs as needed.
• Assist residents with entering/exiting the vehicle, including those using wheelchairs or who have difficulty with steps.
• Follow DOT regulations and facility safety policies.
• Communicate effectively with residents regarding their planned transportation.
• Plan routes considering traffic, weather, and resident needs.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report maintenance or safety issues immediately.
• Assist residents with meals, nutrition, and personal care during appointments as needed.
• Observe and report changes in residents’ physical or mental condition to the charge nurse.
• Follow universal precautions, safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols.
• Protect resident confidentiality and uphold resident rights at all times.

• Must read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, and accept constructive feedback.
• Tactful, professional, and able to work harmoniously with residents, staff, families, and visitors.
• Willingness to learn new procedures and incorporate them into daily practice.
• Ability to relate resident condition information accurately.
• Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others.

• High School diploma or GED.
• Experience transporting passengers or providing care in a long-term care setting.
• Valid Florida driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Familiarity with PCC, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
