General Description
Perform entry level professional duties of moderate difficulty providing the opportunity for professional training in various offices throughout the City. Perform assigned duties to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures and standards required for successful performance. Specific activities vary by department. Work is performed under direct supervision.
This position will organize and manage a STEM-centered summer program for middle‑school age participants. Time span for this position is early June to late July and requires a commitment of up to 30 hours a week during the day.
Essential Functions- Review, organize, and manage the City’s STEM summer program
- Utilize resources to develop engaging exposure activities for program participants
- Collaborate with camp supervisors, City employees, community vendors to organize and schedule age‑appropriate activities
- Ensure a safe learning environment
- Communicate issues and concerns in a timely manner
- Provide professional support such as tracking and charting citywide performance measures; develop tracking methods and gathering performance data.
- Perform related work as required
- Enrollment as a Junior or Senior in a degree‑seeking program in an accredited college or university in Education, Science, Math, or a field related to the area of internship.
- Resume is required to be considered for this position.
- All candidates chosen to interview must present a brief presentation during their interview.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with supervisor, co‑workers, other City employees and the general public.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn Microsoft Office Suites.
- Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing, and to request clarification when needed.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis, routine keyboard operations.
- The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards.
- The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing and speaking.
