The Project Engineer will play a key role in the development of Industrial products working with Yamabiko (parent company), suppliers, and product testing in a team environment. The ideal candidate will have product design experience using various manufacturing methods and the ability to actively participate in the new product development process. ECHO offers a great opportunity to work with different manufacturing technologies, materials, and diverse resources.

The salary range for this position starts at $115,000 based on experience and qualifications.

This is an on-site position based at our Lake Zurich, IL location.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Support the development of IPE products—including generators, trailers, and light towers—and contribute to product enhancements and accessory integration.

Perform mechanical design work across various manufacturing technologies using 3D CAD (Solid Works), including drawing creation, prototyping, supplier coordination, product evaluation, and field failure investigation.

Collaborate effectively within cross‑functional teams, carrying out assigned responsibilities, communicating progress, and consulting with supervisors. Collaboration may include internal ECHO teams as well as external partners such as Yamabiko Japan.

Provide technical support to sales and service teams as needed.

Strengthen technical and operational capabilities through hands‑on training with experienced staff, participation in formal training programs, and training opportunities in Japan.

Be able to travel for business purposes (up to 20%), including international travel.

Job Experience/

Skills:

10+ years of experience in mechanical development and design.

5+ years of project management experience in an engineering environment.

At least 5 years of experience using 3D CAD (Solid Works) and creating 2D drawings, with the ability to demonstrate proficiency.

Experience with bills of material and MRP systems is preferred.

Basic understanding of electrical principles and willingness to learn power generation concepts.

Preferred background working with generators, light towers, engines, and other industrial equipment.

Familiarity or experience with manufacturing processes such as sheet metal fabrication, metal stamping, welding, machining, painting, casting, resin molding, and electrical work (not all required).

Ability to use measurement tools—including calipers, micrometers, gage pins, and comparators—to verify design features.

Light fabrication skills using a variety of tools.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Education:

A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline is required, along with more than 10 years of relevant professional experience.
