Be a Summer Day Camp Unit Leader at Foglia YMCA for Summer 2026!
At the Y, we create an exciting, safe camp environment for kids and staff to have an unforgettable summer. While campers are taking part in unique experiences and adventures, our Summer Day Camp Unit Leaders are developing leadership skills, confidence, and lasting friendships.
Pay starts at $18.45 per hour, Monday‑Friday schedule
Key Responsibilities- Promote the YMCA and provide excellent customer service, creating an outstanding camper experience for children, parents, and families.
- Lead recreational activities, including arts and crafts, sports, social recreation, nature hikes, archery, and other games.
- Instruct campers using various teaching methods, adapting activities as needed to engage all ages and experience levels.
- Model socially acceptable behaviors, using positive reinforcement and behavior‑management strategies.
- Communicate consistently with supervisors, team leaders, and other staff to keep everyone informed of camp activities and schedules.
- Support all camp activities as assigned, including specialty activities, while ensuring physical and emotional safety of campers.
- Follow YMCA safety standards, evaluate potential risks, and ensure compliance with established rules and regulations.
- Monitor campers and counselors, providing corrective coaching and intervention as necessary.
- Set up and maintain activity equipment, keeping camp facilities clean and organized.
- Committed to working with diverse youth and passionate about outdoor learning.
- Enjoy being outdoors, creative, and willing to work hard.
- Previous experience in camping, childcare, education, recreation, or sports is a plus but not required.
- Minimum age 19 at the start of camp.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, able to present ideas clearly to multiple audiences.
- Proven ability to establish constructive relationships and act as a positive role model.
- Continuous learner who applies new knowledge and skills.
- Meets physical qualifications required for the role.
