Overview
The Aquatics Coordinator supports the supervision of the aquatics staff and execution of aquatics programming for the YMCA of the Palm Beaches. The Aquatics Coordinator supports member participation and retention through assisting in the development and execution of aquatics programs to achieve strategic goals and provide outstanding customer service to all members. Additionally, the Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for supporting operational functions of the department, including approving employee payroll, coordinating and maintaining staff scheduling, and ensuring adequate coverage for all aquatics programs and facility needs.
ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
SUPPORT and MANAGE A GREAT STAFF TEAM:
- Support recruiting, selecting, developing, and retaining appropriate skill depth level for the department.
- Support department staff supervision including payroll execution and policy adherence.
- Provide leadership through established performance goals and standards, regular assessment of staff performance including annual performance evaluations, staff meetings, and staff recognition.
- Support and assist in the supervision of aquatic initiatives to achieve retention goals.
- Ensure all staff is current with required certifications. Maintain compliance with required documentation of pool operation.
PROGRAM SUPPORT:
- Support implementation of aquatic programs including swim lessons, swim team, aquatic camps, lap swimming and group exercise classes, promote retention of existing members, and engagement of new members.
- Support and develop new Aquatic programs; meets or exceeds enrollment goals.
- Provide leadership support for Community Outreach Water Safety program AND Adaptive swim program.
GROW AND RETAIN MEMBERSHIP:
- Create and implement aquatics programs with an effort to allow participants to continue along a succession plan from swim lessons to swim team participation. Increase program and pool participation through product knowledge and interactions with existing and potential members. Collaborating with the department leads to maximizing enrollments in program registration and pool usage.
- Plan and execute aquatic events. Promote special events among the members and community.
ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS
- Analyze data, systems, and processes to recognize growth and retention opportunities within the Aquatics department
- Ensure proper implementation of aquatic schedules and procedures to provide maximum opportunities for member/staff connections.
- Collaborate and work effectively with all departments to achieve the desired results.
- Identify and employ best practices in systems and technology to support effective management of the Aquatics department. Utilize available technology, reporting tools and data that enhance aquatics participation and member retention.
- Coordinate and schedule pool and equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Monitor daily operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA of health and safety standards and policies.
- Support the development, operation, and management of the annual budget.
Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned to support team objectives and organizational needs.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree required; sports management, recreation management or related field of study preferred.
- Current Red Cross/YMCA Lifeguard Instructor, Red Cross/YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer, and YMCA Aquatic Management certifications strongly preferred.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in staff supervision and leadership required.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in managing a large aquatic program and camp strongly preferred.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in aquatics or customer service-related field strongly preferred.
- YMCA aquatics or operations experience highly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office required;
Daxko systems experience a plus. - Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and First Aid certifications required.
- Current Lifeguard certification required. (YMCA or Red Cross).
- Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification required within 30 days of hire.
