As a member of Store Leadership, the Area Supervisor is responsible for a specific area of the store, including general operations and, when acting as Manager on Duty, overall store supervision. Responsibilities include opening and closing the store, supervising associates, maintaining a friendly shopping environment, ensuring merchandise presentation, and executing company operational processes as needed.
Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments- Practice safety in all activities and maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor.
- Correct or report unsafe conditions or practices to Store Leadership.
- Secure building: entrance/exit control, EAS devices, cash office, armored carrier pick‑ups, and register area security.
- Keep egress pathways clear and safe.
- Ensure customer safety, accident prevention, reporting, and emergency procedures.
- Test fire alarm systems and respond to after‑hours alarms as requested.
- Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect and professionalism.
- Recognize associates via company recognition programs.
- Represent and support the company brand at all times.
- Maintain a professional appearance per the dress code and enforce it for all associates.
- Keep all store areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.
- Remove trash daily.
- Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and following up.
- Receive merchandise trucks as needed and process all merchandise promptly.
- Handle non‑merchandise inbound deliveries.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.
- Assist with placement of merchandise on the sales floor.
- Secure and process back‑stock per company policy.
- Merchandise departments and back‑stock.
- Reduce loss from damage.
- Comply with monthly presentation guidelines and sign floor moves/promotional signage.
- Handle re‑wraps as necessary.
- Follow Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintain a strong customer‑service presence.
- Demonstrate integrity, safeguard confidential information, cash and credit card data, and merchandise.
- Maintain PVM system.
- Conduct "Code 50" package inspections.
- Execute company best practices to minimize steps and touches.
- Maximize productivity by minimizing steps and extra touches while ensuring front‑end associates meet company standards.
- Maintain pace and presence; manage the line to expedite customer wait time.
- Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control, and other front‑end procedures.
- Oversee retail associate break schedules for backups, lunches, and breaks.
- Ensure all equipment works properly and supplies are stocked.
- Expedite go‑backs, scan, secure, and ticket merchandise.
- Tutor associates on the "Scan and Bag" best practice.
- Ensure salability of merchandise on the front end, aisle tables, men’s/women’s 4‑way features, and specialty racks.
- Maintain cleanliness of fitting rooms.
- Audit and account for all garment tags per company policy.
- Ensure go‑back compliance throughout the day; ticket, scan, nub, and security‑tag returned merchandise.
- Conduct cash pulls and bank deposits per company policy.
- Control front‑end operations, including refund approval, associate purchase approval, securing tills, and cash procedures.
