POSITION SUMMARY

The Equipment Manager oversees a comprehensive preventative maintenance program according to Mountain Lake’s goals, policies and procedures. This position includes the repair of failing equipment, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment, and placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment service. The Equipment Manager properly communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to his reports, and schedules and directs the work assignments of the Assistant Mechanic.

The Equipment Manager places safety as top priority and is responsible maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Looking for an individual who has a background and interest in mechanics and is looking to advance their mechanical knowledge as it pertains to mowers and other machines used on golf courses and in landscape settings.
  • Basic small engine gasoline and diesel mechanical knowledge necessary.
  • Enrollment in a technical school is not essential, but preferred.
  • Through manager training, this individual will be exposed to the daily maintenance routine of a golf course. From walk mowers to ride-on mowers, bunker machines, spray rigs, tractors, aerifiers, etc., this person will be properly educated on safe use and operation of all equipment (you cannot diagnose and repair equipment if you do not know how to operate them).
  • When the Golf Course & Grounds Manager and Senior Assistant Superintendent feel this person is comfortable and knowledgeable working on the golf course, they will then be brought into the mechanic shop to begin training on how these pieces of equipment function. Help them understand how each machine works, including electrical and hydraulic functions.
  • Training on proper daily observance and maintenance of machines, including greasing and checking/adjusting mowing heights and blade contacts.
  • Ability to notice certain issues with machines before they go out for operation.
  • Training on diagnosing and troubleshooting issues with gasoline and diesel equipment.
  • Training on sharpening rotary blades.
  • Training on grinding reels and bedknives.
  • Understanding equipment repair and maintenance as it pertains to financial budgets (communication with Golf Course & Grounds Manager).
  • Introduction to equipment vendors and properly ordering equipment parts as needed.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, understanding that equipment does sometimes fail and it is this individual’s responsibility to maintain a professional manner when tasked with repairing machines in a timely manner.
  • Working in conjunction with Golf Course & Grounds Manager and Senior Assistant Superintendent daily in team member scheduling. This is essential so the Head Equipment Manager understands which pieces of equipment are going to be needed each day, and they have been checked and observed and ready for use ahead of time.
  • Communication with the Golf Course & Grounds Manager and Senior Assistant Superintendent is vital. As managers, we have to be able to work as a team.
  • Starting pay $18-20/hour BOE. Based on work ethic, initiative, and motivation throughout the golf course maintenance training period, this individual is subject to pay increases once they are transitioned into the mechanical aspect of this department.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of small engine, diesel, hydraulics and budgeting.
  • Minimum of one (1) or more years in golf course maintenance and country club experience.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license; commercial driver license preferred.
  • Private Club experience preferred.
  • Knowledgeable and able to perform 5-star service.
MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE
  • Equipment Manager will be evaluated and tested at various times throughout the season based upon their knowledge, basic skills, team attitude and Member recognition.
  • Equipment Manager will be given a 90-day review and an annual review (once a year).
