What You’ll Do

Float across three levels of care — typically Med-Surg, Telemetry, and Stepdown. Candidates with a skill mix including ER, ICU, Medical, Stepdown, or Med-Surg are preferred as you would float to three levels.

Schedule & Shifts
  • Shift options: 7:00 AM start (days); 7:00 PM start (nights)
  • Weekend rotation:
    Part-time — Three 12-hour weekend shifts every 4 weeks
  • Scheduling:
    Weekends are self-scheduled
  • On-call:
    None
Experience Requirements
  • One year RN experience required for Ministry Float or two years RN experience required for Regional Float
Job Summary

Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements Primary Responsibilities
  • Use standards of medical-surgical nursing practice to increase quality of care and quality of life for the patient, family, and significant others by evaluating nursing practice.
  • Establish effective relationships and advocate for the patient, family, and significant others to facilitate the care plan.
  • Use the nursing process to develop and implement the plan of care, collect assessment data, determine diagnoses, identify outcomes, plan interventions, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Develop assessment and management strategies considering physical, functional, cultural, social, economic, developmental, spiritual, vocational, and leisure dimensions of health.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the impact of illness on the patient s status.
  • Utilize leadership by coordinating with patient, family, significant others, communities, and interprofessional team to assess needs, set goals, plan interventions, provide care, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Utilize effective communication with the patient, family, and other health care providers to support collaborative decision making that is culturally sensitive, ethical, legal, holistic, informed, compassionate, and humane within available resources.
  • Educate the patient, family, and significant others about measures that promote, maintain, and restore health or promote comfort.
  • Foster a healthy work environment by serving as a mentor and role model for nursing colleagues, students, and others.
  • Apply evidence-based practice to medical-surgical nursing practice, ensuring care is delivered based on patient age-specific and clinical needs as described in the department s Scope of Service.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and safety.
  • May perform point-of-care testing according to policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing or education equivalency for licensing
Experience
  • One year RN experience (Ministry Float) or two years RN experience (Regional Float)

  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0–25 lbs
