Job SummaryIn the Senior Accountant position, incumbents provide support to the Finance Director and Assistant Finance Director and other department staff by utilizing accounting, tax, and analytical skills. This position assists in account reconciliation, problem resolution, and streamlining of tasks. This position requires the use of independent judgment and discretion in the performance of the work.
Essential Job Functions- Establish written procedures for reconciliations and related accounting tasks
- Uses advanced knowledge in accounting and requires the consistent exercise of discretion and judgment
- Performs monthly and annual bank statement reconciliations or reviews reconciliation for completeness
- Prepares bi-weekly payroll and associated reports as required or review payroll reports for accuracy and completeness
- Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare journal entries
- Cross trains to provide assistance and back up to Cashiering/Reception, Accounting Technician and Procurement Specialist in all job duties
- Prepares regulatory reports as required by State and Federal agencies. Prepares financial reports of all types, including the reports required in period and special audits of the Town’s financial administration
- Prepares daily cash reports, accurate deposits, and data entries to account
- Performs monthly analysis of revenues and expenditures and comparison of budget to actuals
- Performs monthly review and reconciliations of general ledger accounts and follows up on discrepancies and irregularities
- Assists other Finance Department personnel
- Assists Assistant Finance Director in completing required documentation for yearly audits
- Prepares tax reports including but not limited to sales tax, fuel tax, and payroll tax returns
- Performs other related job duties as assigned
- Performs all tasks related to the Sanitation Utility Billing/Accounts Receivable functions including invoicing, collection and reconciliation
- Provides assistance for tasks related to the Local Business Tax Receipts including customer service, issuing and renewing business tax receipts
- Performs other accounting and administrative functions as assigned
- Responds to emergency call-ins for hurricanes and other critical events
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or a related field required
- Three (3) years of experience in a related field
- Must have valid Florida driver’s license
- Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of GAAP;
Government Accounting, Auditing, and Financial Reporting; and GASB requirements - Skill in preparing complex financial reports using advanced computer techniques and software such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with other employees, Town officials, customers, and the general public
- Ability to plan projects, work independently, make appropriate decisions, and direct others as part of a project; ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
- Tyler ERP Pro 10 experience is a plus
The work is sedentary and requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
