Overview
The Village is accepting applications for Seasonal Public Works Laborer positions for the upcoming season.
These positions perform semi-skilled work assisting with the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and upkeep of Village infrastructure and public facilities. Duties include, but are not limited to, maintenance and repair of curbs, sidewalks, streets, rights-of-way, storm sewers, and other Village-owned properties. Employees will also assist with park maintenance activities such as mowing, landscaping, and general grounds upkeep; pothole patching and basic asphalt repairs;
installation, maintenance, and repair of street signs and sidewalks; cleaning and maintaining Village facilities and park amenities; and painting of structures, equipment, and other public assets.
- Operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and light equipment; perform manual labor under varying weather conditions.
- Work under the general supervision of the Street or Public Properties Superintendent or their designee; assignments provided daily or by project.
- Assist with maintenance and repair of curbs, sidewalks, streets, rights-of-way, storm sewers, and other Village-owned properties.
- Assist with park maintenance activities such as mowing, landscaping, and general grounds upkeep; pothole patching and basic asphalt repairs; installation, maintenance, and repair of street signs, sidewalks; cleaning and maintaining Village facilities and park amenities; painting of structures, equipment, and other public assets.
- Assist in the removal of trash from parks and rights-of-ways and open spaces.
- Assist in installation of street signs, striping streets and parking lots.
- Shovel and spread asphalt and asphalt base in patching, repairing, and reconstructing streets; fill road cracks with sealing material.
- Inspect Village-owned equipment and report work requirements; maintain records and documentation of work performed.
- Maintain an inventory of materials for sign repair and replacement; replace damaged signs as appropriate.
- Move furniture, paint public facilities, mow Village property, conduct weed control, and clean facilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the unit; ensure safety and adherence to Village policies.
High school diploma or equivalent, with one year public works experience or related field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered. Must possess a valid Illinois Class D driver s license.
Schedule and Divisions- Streets Division: 3 positions – 24-week duration
- Parks Division: 3 positions – 24-week duration
- Properties Division: 1 position – 12-week duration
Assignments will be made based on departmental needs and applicant qualifications.
Hours:
Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Start Date:
All positions anticipated to begin in May.
Must have the ability to communicate orally and in writing; basic mathematical ability; ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions; good judgment and reasoning; ability to operate a variety of manual and powered equipment; ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedules; physical capacity to perform tasks requiring standing, walking over uneven terrain, lifting heavy objects, and exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
