Job Summary

Under the direction of the Park Manager, this position is responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of a recreation-based or natural resource/historic park.

Responsibilities
  • Operate park with business acumen and an entrepreneurial spirit focusing on revenue generation, cost effectiveness, and innovation.
  • Assist in tracking Park budgets (Cattail Cove State Park) and provide recommendations for annual changes to the Park Manager.
  • Follow procurement rules to complete purchases through requisitions and P-card (if issued) for equipment, materials, supplies, and repairs needed at Cattail Cove State Park.
  • Assist in the operation, maintenance, and repairs of a newer portable water and wastewater treatment system; train staff and assist in obtaining certifications for plant operations, including irrigation and reclaimed water functions.
  • Hire, train, and coach staff; complete payroll and training program paperwork and reports.
  • Develop partnerships with external organizations (e.g., friends groups, chambers of commerce, media, special interest groups, and local, state, and federal government entities).
  • Provide excellent customer service to park visitors.
  • Perform administrative duties such as preparing reports, project management, and updating the Annual Operating Plan for the park.
  • Supervise and train Park Ranger Seniors, Park Rangers, Park Ranger Assistants, Volunteers, and staff as Subject Matter Experts (SME).
  • Direct and/or perform park maintenance, improvement projects, and park inventories.
  • Represent the Agency at public meetings and other capacities as assigned.
  • Enforce park policies and procedures while conserving resources and ensuring public safety.
  • Host park visitors, provide information, lead or assist in training, conduct interpretive programs, patrol grounds, enforce park rules, perform office and custodial duties, participate in emergencies, and collaborate with other units and DOC work crews.
  • Operate and maintain watercraft and ensure navigational aids comply with Coast Guard rules.
  • Assist with planning special events at the park and represent the park at off-site events.
  • This position may require weekend and holiday work and potential relocation to another state park seasonally or permanently; living on park may be required.
  • Water/Wastewater Certification may be required based on current requirements; EMT certification within 1 year of appointment may be required.
Job Duties
  • Customer Service:
    Maintain a professional attitude in all aspects of customer service (selling passes, answering calls, reservations, park correspondence, information requests, ordering supplies, inventory management, restocking, accounting, and training).
  • Community Relations:
    Attend meetings with Park Manager and maintain contacts with representatives of special interest groups, media, and other agencies; attend Friends meetings when needed.
  • Supervision:
    Lead in establishing and scheduling project priorities; manage daily cleaning, landscaping, and maintenance tasks; assign work for staff and volunteers; evaluate projects and administer performance evaluations.
  • Maintenance and Improvement:
    Participate in park maintenance and improvement projects; oversee inventories and assets related to field and lake operations.
  • Administration:
    Prepare and approve reports (time, activity, revenue, purchasing, deposits, construction activity, volunteer documents) and participate in public meetings, seminars, and internal committees.
  • Operations Coordination:
    Coordinate with contractors and staff for water treatment and wastewater plant operations; order materials and supervise daily operations and reporting; train staff as needed.
  • Boating & Lake Site Operations:
    Ensure safety, maintenance, appearance, environmental compliance, and revenue standards for the park operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge: Park/lodge operations, safety standards, resource protection, interpretation techniques, grounds keeping, basic utility vehicle repair, agency vision/goals, applicable laws and policies, CPR & First Aid, building repair concepts, safe boating operations, water and wastewater concepts.
