PARK ASSISTANT MANAGER – CATTAIL COVE STATE PARK

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Park Manager, this position is responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of a recreation based or natural resource/historic park. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Operates park with a business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit that focuses on revenue generation, cost effectiveness, and innovation.
  • Assists in tracking Park budgets (Cattail Cove State Park) and makes recommendations for annual changes to Park Manager.
  • Responsible for following procurement rules in completing purchases through requisitions and P-card (if issued) for equipment, materials, supplies and repairs needed at Cattail Cove State Park.
  • Assists in the operation, maintenance and repairs of a newer portable water and wastewater treatment system; trains and assists staff in obtaining certifications in the operation of the treatment plants, including irrigation and reclaimed water functions.
  • Hires, trains, and coaches staff; completes payroll and training program paperwork and reports.
  • Develops partnerships with external organizations such as friends groups, chambers of commerce, media, and various government entities.
  • Provides excellent customer service to customers.
  • Performs administrative duties such as preparing reports, project management, and updating the Annual Operating Plan for the Park.
  • Supervises and trains Park Ranger Senior, Park Ranger, Park Ranger Assistants, Volunteers and staff assigned as Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Directs and/or performs park maintenance, improvement projects and park inventories.
  • Participates in and represents the Agency in public meetings and enforces park policies and procedures while conserving natural resources and ensuring public safety.
  • Hosts park visitors, provides information, conducts training, leads interpretive programs, patrols grounds, and coordinates with Department of Corrections work crews as assigned.
  • Operates and maintains watercraft and ensures navigational aids comply with Coast Guard rules.
  • Assists with planning of special events at both parks and represents the park at off-site events.
  • This position may require weekend and holiday work and periodic relocation to another state park; living on park may be required. May require Water/Wastewater Certification and EMT certification within 1 year of appointment.
Job Duties
  • Customer Service: Maintains a professional attitude in all aspects of customer service including selling passes, reservations, park correspondence, information requests, and inventory management.
  • Community Relations: Attend meetings and maintain contacts with representatives of special interest groups, media and other governmental agencies; attend Friends meetings when requested by Park Manager.
  • Supervision: Establishes project priorities and daily cleaning/maintenance tasks; assigns work to staff and volunteers; evaluates performance and addresses personnel issues.
  • Park Maintenance and Administration: Participates in maintenance projects; prepares and approves reports; represents the agency at meetings; coordinates with contractors; oversees water treatment plant operations and compliance; orders materials and coordinates maintenance; supervises daily operations and reporting.
  • Boating & Lake Site Operations: Ensures safety, maintenance, appearance, environmental and revenue standards for the park areas of responsibility.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge: Park/lodge operational needs, safety standards, resource protection, interpretation techniques, grounds keeping, basic utility vehicle repair, agency laws and policies, CPR & First Aid, building concepts, safe boating operations, and water/wastewater operations.

  • Skills: Training staff, personnel management, task prioritization, facility and landscape maintenance, handling emergencies with professionalism, problem solving, verbal and written communication, public speaking, and use of office equipment.
