Registered Nurse, Outpatient Services

Overview

RN - Surgery Outpatient position summary:
Provides direct patient care in the outpatient surgical setting using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. Reports to the Director of Surgical Services.

• Performs plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care activities.
• Documents patient care provided.
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
• Performs all areas of perioperative care to include pre-op, intra-op and post-op.
• Evaluates learning needs of patients and families; provides education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
• Participates in performance improvement and continuing education.
• Provides quality patient care and works flexible shifts/units as needed.
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Patient Populations Served:
  Neonate, Infant, Early Childhood, Late Childhood, Adolescent, Young Adult, Middle Adult, Older Adult.
• Protected Health Information Accessed:
  Demographic, Clinical, Insurance, Financial, Complete Medical Record.
• Exposure:
  Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens is present; may involve contact with patients, blood, body fluids, or specimens.
• Physical Requirements:
  
  Frequent standing, walking, lifting/moving patients, kneeling, and repetitive hand/arm movements. Regular exposure to biological and chemical hazards, including blood and bodily fluids, hazardous medications, and latex.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

• Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing required;
  Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.

  Current RN license in state of practice; BLS, ACLS, and PALS required.
