HowYou ll Contribute
You ll make an impact by utilizing your specialized plan-of-care intervention and serving as a patient-care innovator. You will shape exceptional patient journeys every day and leverage your skills and our cutting-edge technology to directly impact patient wellbeing. Maintain the sterile field in the operating room, ensuring proper aseptic techniques are utilized to prevent contamination and infection. Assist the surgical team as the sterile member who passes instruments, sutures, and sponges during surgery.
Reports to:
Director or Manager Surgical Services
- Before an operation, help set up the operating room and organize sterile table with surgical instruments and equipment, sterile linens, and sterile solutions.
- Check, adjust, and operate equipment such as sterilizers, lights, suction machines, electrosurgical units, and diagnostic equipment.
- Maintain supply of fluids such as plasma, saline, blood, and glucose for use during operation.
- Prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and disinfecting incision sites. Also transport, position patients on table, and cover them with sterile surgical drapes.
- Scrub hands and arms, put on sterile operating room attire to work within the sterile field and handle sterilized instruments, equipment, and supplies used in the procedure.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon, passing instruments, and providing sterile items in an efficient manner.
- Help prepare, care for, and dispose of specimens taken for laboratory analysis, hold retractors, cut sutures, and apply dressings as directed.
- Cleans and restocks the operating room.
- Adhere to The Joint Commission (TJC) professional standards and attend hospital in-service training sessions as directed. Provide age-appropriate care for all age groups.

- Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulatory and compliance (e.g., HIPAA). Skilled in the application of policies and procedures. Knowledge of Business Office Standards and Recommended Practices.

- Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent Preferred - Surgical technologists graduate from surgical technology program (Years of relevant experience may be substituted for required education/certification.)

Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) required one month from hire date
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
