The Public Works Apprentice position is a temporary 3-year work training program, with the potential for additional training programs designed to cross train and help individuals establish skills that will help build a career. While the City cannot guarantee full-time employment after completing the Apprentice program, many employees who have held similar positions have gone on to full-time Public Works careers.

Under direct supervision, progress through the 3-year work training program to become a well-rounded member of the Public Works Department:

• Collect refuse, recycling, and yard waste
• Operate all types of heavy equipment, such as scooters, rear packers, and hook lifts
• Become familiar with routes through refuse collection and snow operations
• Participate in training initiatives, such as landfill safety and dumpster emptying

Qualifications and requirements:

• Familiarity with using hand tools and power tools/equipment
• Good driving record and must be able to attain a CDL License Class B with Air Brake Endorsement
• Ability to work alternate work-hour schedules for winter, weekends, and when workload dictates
• At least 18 years old
• The ability to perform strenuous physical lifting and work in all weather conditions

Rate of pay that will rise with experience!

Full Pay Range: $23.63 - $28.78 Hourly
