Salary nJob DescriptionOur client is currently seeking an Electrical Safety Engineer for a 12 month+ contract.
Responsibilities- Perform Safety, EMC and Wireless test assessments throughout the development lifecycle, including early stages to provide inputs to R&D and drive product development.
- Research and develop product EMC & Wireless requirements, select applicable standards & tests, and provide analyses to support global market access strategies for all electromechanical surgical instruments.
- Support product development utilizing specialized EMI/EMC hardware and software at the circuitry (PCB) and system levels.
- Plan, communicate periodic status and known risks (with proposed solutions) to R&D core teams.
- Perform EMI/EMC testing and troubleshooting of Alcon products in the EMC Lab and external labs.
- Communicate with internal/external labs, technicians, and design engineers to achieve timely results at optimal cost.
- Collaborate with teams to ensure full execution of identified required testing and review activities, including pre‑verification test rehearsals to de‑risk product launches.
- Document and execute all V&V tests compliant with medical device QSR, ISO 13485, and prepare detailed Safety, EMC and Wireless verification test plans and reports.
- Effectively communicate complex concepts in formal/informal presentations and technical reports; proven technical writing skills are required.
- BS + 2 years of experience in medical device product safety/EMC compliance or fully‑accredited test labs.
- Proven experience working cross‑functional teams.
- Strong familiarity with IEC 60601‑1 (3rd edition, first amendment) and IEC 60601‑1‑2 (4th edition, first amendment), including knowledge of test equipment used under these standards.
- Experience working with NRTL’s for certifying products to these standards.
- Experience with safety and EMC testing of electrical equipment and certification of wireless devices for global market access.
- Experience with use and maintenance of commonly used safety and EMC test equipment, including chamber, spectrum analyzer, immunity test equipment, EFT surge test equipment, leakage measurements, dielectric test, and ground continuity.
- Proven experience applying state‑of‑the‑art EMC and RF design principles.
- Working knowledge of IEC 60601‑1 and IEC 60601‑1‑2 medical standards.
- Experience with software/hardware design at PCB and system levels to support test planning.
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
