Essential

Duties
  • Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repair.
  • Communicate with parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
  • Examine assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
  • Communicate with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
  • Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
  • Road test vehicles when required or refer to the test technician.
  • Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
  • Keep abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
  • Be well versed in warranty eligibility and recalls.
  • Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Ensure that customers' cars are kept clean. Notify service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
  • Keep shop area neat and clean.
  • Maintain and be accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Return them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.
  • Understand, keep abreast of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
  • Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Report any safety issues immediately to management.
Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; formal automotive schooling preferred, and/or four or more years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and information.
  • Knowledge in all aspects of automotive repair and maintenance.
  • A fast learner.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Team player.
  • Ensures that customer’s cars are kept clean.
  • To maintain his stall in an orderly and clean manner; ability to identify problems quickly.
  • Good knowledge of automobiles.
  • Effective analytical and communication skills.
  • Good reading, computer, and mathematics skills.
  • Ability to learn new technology and repair and service procedures and specifications.
  • Should be able to operate electronic diagnostic equipment.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Training and supervising an apprentice technician.
Salary

$45 - $55 an hour. Rate based on experience and assigned rates.
