Tax Preparer – Apple One, Lake Forest, CA Job Description

We’re a growing tax and accounting firm seeking a proactive, relationship-focused CPA with a CTEC certification to join our team. If you enjoy supporting clients, improving systems, mentoring others, and being part of a firm that’s building for the future, this role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact.

This is a key position with both day-to-day operational responsibilities and long-term strategic influence. You’ll work directly with clients, oversee tax and bookkeeping work, guide resolutions with tax agencies, and help strengthen internal processes and team development.

• Provide bookkeeping support for individuals and small businesses
• Manage tax resolution cases (offers in compromise, payment plans, correspondence with tax agencies)
• Prepare and review individual and business tax returns
• Review and approve returns prepared by team members to ensure accuracy
• Assist with IRS and state notices and audits
• Create and refine workflows, checklists, and SOPs
• Train and mentor preparers and support staff
• Collaborate with leadership to improve systems, service quality, and firm operations
• Contribute to a positive, accountable, growth-oriented work culture

• Active CPA license in California (or eligible for reciprocity)
• CTEC certification required
• 3+ years of experience in tax and/or public accounting
• Solid understanding of tax preparation and general accounting principles
• Experience reviewing and correcting work prepared by others
• Comfortable creating or refining internal procedures
• Proficient in Quick Books and Drake (or similar software)
• Clear, professional communicator with strong client skills
• Able to support and guide a small team when needed
• Bilingual in Spanish (required)
