Joist Designer - NMBS

Overview

Read and understand production bills of material, structural drawings and steel erection drawings to produce accurate shop orders for production.

Responsibilities

* Data entry and design of open web steel joists and steel decking in proprietary design program

* Prepare shop orders and details for production

* Check designs and shop orders for other designers

* Handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, production driven environment

* Meet schedules for assigned projects

* Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

* Good verbal and written communication skills

* Proficient computer skills

* Basic understanding in geometry and trigonometry

* Ability to visualize how elements fit together in 3D when working with 2D drawings

* Willingness to go beyond typical duties to assist co-workers and customers

* Willing and able to work 50+ hours/week during busy seasons

* Prior experience in the steel joist industry is a plus

* Design related degree with knowledge of statics and materials is a plus
